 Madison County is strategically located with four exits on Interstate 10, a major east/west corridor, and only 20 miles from the major north/south corridor of Interstate 75. Major Rail service through Madison County is also available. Madison has recently completed an extensive infrastructure project to bring water and sewer services to the commercial/industrial area that stretches along Interstate 10 between the State Road 53 and State Road 255. Madison County has experienced slow but steady growth. The current population is estimated to be aproximately 19,000. The County was named in honor of Founding Father James Madison in 1827. The County is bordered on the north by the Florida/Georgia state line, on the east by the Withlacoochee and Suwannee Rivers, and on the west by the Aucilla River. The county boasts 716 square miles of forests, rivers, lakes and gently rolling hills for residents to enjoy. The City of Madison, which serves as the County Seat, was named for Madison C. Livingston, who donated the first parcel of land to create the city in 1838. |
