$30 Million Awarded to Develop and Enhance Broadband Services Feb 18, 2010 The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the North Florida Broadband Authority (NFBA) has been awarded more than $30 million to enable and enhance real access to Broadband and high-speed connectivity for a 14-county region designated as a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern (RACEC) in North Florida. The NFBA's grant application was selected from among 2,200 proposals submitted nationally. Credits for this success must be shared across the region, from the dedicated commitment of the local governments and Board Members who comprise the North Florida Broadband Authority, to the initiative and leadership of the North Florida Economic Development Partnership and its Board of Directors, to the financial support of Enterprise Florida and the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development (OTTED). Additionally, thanks go out to all those who expressed their interest and support through attendence at conferences and outreach forums, and especially to the sponsors who made their facilities and services available for these meetings. Jeff Hendry, Executive Director of the North Florida Economic Development Partnership, Inc., adds, "I can think of no more important investment for this region than Broadband and high-speed connectivity infrastructure ? the infrastructure of the 21st Century. It has the potential to create unique and significant opportunities for economic development, to significantly improve and advance education, health care, and public safety services and standards, and enhance the quality of life for communities and residents throughout the region." 2010-02-19 For developing news, please visit the NFBA http://www.nfba-fl.org/
