Nov 1, 2010 - For Immediate Release: North Florida Economic Development Partnership (NFEDP) Forms Strategic Partnership with North Florida Broadband Authority (NFBA)The North Florida Broadband Authority (NFBA) unanimously approved an agreement at its July 14, 2010 Board of Directors meeting to engage the North Florida Economic Development Partnership (NFEDP) for the purpose of: facilitating the development of strategic partnerships between the NFBA and potential consumers and deliverers of enhanced Broadband service; promoting education and awareness about the value and use of Broadband; and serving as a central contact and distribution resource for the NFBA in promoting local/regional service provision, construction and technology contracting opportunities, and other regional workforce activities created by the NFBA. The NFBA includes Baker, Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Jefferson, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Putnam, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, and Wakulla counties, and the cities of Cedar Key, Cross City, Lake City, Live Oak, Monticello, Perry, White Springs, and Worthington Springs. "This strategic alliance is really a key and logical step in that the NFEDP served as the driving force in reaching out and securing the necessary public and private support for the creation of the NFBA that eventually resulted in the $30.1 million Federal Broadband Infrastructure Grant for the region," said Rick Breer, Chairman for the NFEDP. He added that "by working directly with the NFEDP, the NFBA gains the advantage of a highly credible, dynamic communications and contacts network involving those entities and individuals responsible for promoting economic development across 14 counties - the NFBA's network will be a huge asset in our economic development plans." Robert Sheets, General Manager for the NFBA, echoed these remarks and stipulated that "the engagement of the NFEDP in this capacity is a no-brainer; the leadership exhibited by their Board, the communities they represent, and the current and future economic development efforts being undertaken provide the NFBA with a tremendous opportunity to succeed immediately." He added that the "NFBA fully expects this partnership to provide significant, mutual value for both entities, but more importantly to the future success and quality of life for the region both serve."

$30 Million Awarded to Develop and Enhance Broadband Services Feb 18, 2010 The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the North Florida Broadband Authority (NFBA) has been awarded more than $30 million to enable and enhance real access to Broadband and high-speed connectivity for a 14-county region designated as a Rural Area of Critical Economic Concern (RACEC) in North Florida. The NFBA's grant application was selected from among 2,200 proposals submitted nationally. Credits for this success must be shared across the region, from the dedicated commitment of the local governments and Board Members who comprise the North Florida Broadband Authority, to the initiative and leadership of the North Florida Economic Development Partnership and its Board of Directors, to the financial support of Enterprise Florida and the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development (OTTED). Additionally, thanks go out to all those who expressed their interest and support through attendence at conferences and outreach forums, and especially to the sponsors who made their facilities and services available for these meetings. Jeff Hendry, Executive Director of the North Florida Economic Development Partnership, Inc., adds, "I can think of no more important investment for this region than Broadband and high-speed connectivity infrastructure ? the infrastructure of the 21st Century. It has the potential to create unique and significant opportunities for economic development, to significantly improve and advance education, health care, and public safety services and standards, and enhance the quality of life for communities and residents throughout the region." 2010-02-19 For developing news, please visit the NFBA http://www.nfba-fl.org/
